I was born in Berea, Ohio and moved to Santa Cruz, CA with my family when I was 6 years old. I have early memories there of the beaches and lagoon that we lived on . . . walking along the beautiful Eucalyptus Palisades, the brilliant monarch butterflies. We moved to Oregon in the early '80's . . . I will provide this next glossing over of the parts about my mother who was a drop-out hippie lawyer which thus explains how I lived on an Oregon commune while I was a teenager and my Eastern-influenced background. I married when I was 20, while in college and I have raised my four children here, in somewhat rural western Oregon, except for our recent (and not regretted!) 10 month move to North Carolina (and back) in 2008-09. Divorced and now very happily remarried for just 3 years, I have now gained a wonderful husband and step-son, our family now numbers seven!
Even as a young child, I have always been artistic and previously been described as 'unorthodox' or told that I seemed to march to my own drum. As an adult, my strong mothering instincts prompted me to stay home raising four children and homeschooling on our Oregon property for many years and eventually my creativity grew into the business of Fairy Cove Silks. I had many diversions along the way: college, and childrearing, extensive gardening and plant collecting/propagating, reading reading… studying homeopathy and naturopathy. Read more!
Megan Parker - Web Mistress and Graphic Artist
I was born in Cullowhee and spent the first eighteen years of my life in the mountains of
North Carolina. I went to school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated
in May 2008 with a BFA with a concentration in design. I first heard about Fairy Cove Silks
through a friend of mine who had been recently hired there. I contacted Meag and started working for
her the beginning of September in 2008.
At first my job mostly consisted pressing silk, packaging, inventory, and shipping, but later
on I became responsible for taking over website maintenance from the previous web designer and
filling any of Fairy Cove's graphic design needs. When Meag and her family returned to Oregon, I
stayed on to continue with working on the website (and occassionally to mail the Maloneys boxes of
Luizianne tea . . .). I spent the summer working with the Maine Conservation Corps doing trail
maintenance. I'm currently living in Nashville, Tennessee and have returned to working for Fairy
Cove Silks fulltime and doing freelance design on the side.
My current goals are to keep expanding my web-developement skills and start branching into the
programming aspect of web design. Otherwise, I spend my time hiking, drawing, and learning as
much as I can about everything.

Vicki Thornton - Seamstress
I was born in California and came to the Portland area when I was nine years old. I had watched my mother sew for years, and at nine, I began sewing doll clothes for my Barbies. I wanted to learn to sew in the worst way, but my mother made me wait until I took my first home economics class, buying the ugliest fabric for my first project. It turned out wonderful and from then on, I had the bug. I began making my own school clothes at age 12.
After High School I went on to college to study accounting. I worked over fifteen years in that field and related fields. I married, raised three children, now all adults, and I have two grandchildren.
In 1992 I started my own sewing business and named it Spool of Thought, which I am still running today. I do alterations, make custom clothing, work on weddings and teach sewing lessons. In 2005 I began a custom baby line called "Ruby's Baby Designs", named after my mother.
I became involved with Fairy Cove Silks this year, 2009, when I met the owner,Meagan Maloney, and began constructing many of the items sold by her company today. I thoroughly enjoy working with Meagan on her beautiful line of dance clothing and look forward to a long relationship. Read more!
Michael Maloney - IT and Support System
I was born in Maryland and I lived there till I was fourteen
years old when my Father (a retired Chemist of three years), being the
adventurous soul that he was, moved our family to Missoula,
Montana (The Great West he called it). I attended High School
in Missoula then attended the U of Montana, did foreign
exchange in college in Italy and after that I moved to many
states: Connecticut, South Carolina, Florida, Washington,
Utah, Arizona, North Carolina, And of course Oregon.
During all of my travels I have seen a lot and learned even more... I took thirty-five years, fourty-nine states four
countries and over three million miles to finally find the woman of my
dreams, and now I am married to her! Meagan and I have been married for three years
and it has been a TRIP just ask the kids (5). We have seen the country together and been
in blizzards and floods and wind storms. All this has made us a great family despite all
the challenges. I am proud of them all! Read more!
Hannah Fuson - Pressing and Packaging
My name is Hannah Elise Fuson. I am the owners' daughter of Fairy Cove Silks, so I naturally am entitled to help with the business. I am only twelve and cannot do the more experienced things like actually dyeing all the quality silk, but I still help out with the business. My usual job is folding and bowing the silk to get it ready to ship. Some other things I usually do is pressing the silk, but I don't do it as often. My mother started the business 6 years ago when I was 6, so I didn't do much helping then because I would just mess it up. I help out a lot more today because I am older. When I'm not helping out my mom I am usually at soccer practice. I have been playing for three years and intend to keep going for as long as I can. That's pretty much all you need to know about me!
Andrew Fuson - Box Boy
My name is Andrew, and I help out at Fairy Cove by making labels, unwrapping silks getting them ready for dyeing, and getting boxes ready for shipping. I dye silk in the summers when I am not in school, and often I come in to work when we have days off. My favorite colors are tangerine oranges and delphinium turquoise blues. My favorite piece I made this year were some really large scarves and sometimes I wrap up in them when hanging out or watching tv. My mom goes into the classroom for Mother's Day silk dyeing with the kids usually every year, and its always a blast! I love to play with Fairytales and Silktails, and my earliest memory of silk is when I was 3 and mom dyeing silk outside in the outdoor utility sink on our family land in the country where I was born in Deer Island.
